World War Two which is also written as WW2 or WWII to most of us is only history as the event happened many decades ago.
The start of the war in Europe is generally held at September 1, 1939 precisely and lasted for 6 years ending September 2,1945, that's 71 years ago it ended and 77 years ago it began. Probably most of our grand pops were just born around that time and some of our great grand pops probably fought the war from my calculations though for those who were born around the 80s and 90s.
In total, deaths recorded in both Allied and Axis territories amounts to as much as 75 million of which included both civilians and military persons. The major Axis powers included Germany, Italy, Japan, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and the Allied powers were U.S, Britain, France, USSR, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, and Yugoslavia.

23. Total casualties for World War II were between 50 and 70 million people, 80% of who came form only four countries — Russia, China, Germany, and Poland. Over 50% of the casualties were civilians, with the majority of those being women and children.
